Mark W. Sims
By providing quality and professional mediation services, it is my hope that legal disputes can be amicably resolved in a more efficient and cost-effective manner; and in a way that promotes collaboration and compromise by the parties both during and after the conclusion of the mediation process. |
Mark W. Sims is an attorney-mediator with offices located in the Arboretum corridor of Austin, Texas. Mr. Sims has worked as a litigator and a mediator in family law and other areas of general civil litigation in Travis and Williamson Counties and in Central Texas for twenty-four years.
It is Mr. Sims' belief that by breaking down areas of conflict into distinct, easy to manage pieces (often by incorporating visual aids and computer models that provide quick and accurate calculations), parties to any conflict can identify and understand each of the variables necessary to achieve a complete agreement. Mr. Sims works to empower mediation participants to make informed decisions in negotiating those variables so that they can work together to arrive at a fair and satisfactory result. Mr. Sims utilizes a system for drafting Mediated Settlement Agreements in a clear and efficient manner.
Mr. Sims is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and has Finance and Marketing degrees from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a Credentialed Distinguished Mediator with the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association, a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and a Fellow in the Austin Bar Foundation. Mr. Sims, a CV Peer Review Rated Attorney and is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Sims serves on the board of the Texas Association of Mediators, he was the co-chair of the 2020 TAM Annual Conference, and he is the President-Elect of that organization.
Mr. Sims has facilitated over four-thousand mediations in family law cases and in other civil litigation matters. Mr. Sims regularly attends continuing education seminars in mediation, family law, and collaborative law and he significantly exceeds the annual, continuing legal education training required for practicing attorneys in the State of Texas.
Mr. Sims has given numerous lectures on family law topics, mediation issues, and Collaborative Law at training seminars for attorneys, at other public events, and in the local media. Mr. Sims has also spoken in mediation training seminars for attorney and non-attorney mediators. He is a former chair of the Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas and volunteers regularly for Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas leading a pro se clinic regarding family law matters.
Mr. Sims has been awarded the J. Chrys Dougherty Award by the Austin Bar Association in recognition of his volunteer efforts. Mr. Sims is proud of his work to establish an Endowed Presidential Scholarship at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin to honor his close friend and mentor, Joseph H. Culver.
